Check Out My YouTube!

So I now have a YouTube channel, at Sean Duff. So check it out. Because I'm going to use my YouTube channel primarily for things I would ordinarily say on this blog, I probably won't post here anymore. My other blog, Tales From Mirkwood, will still be posted...I'm not sure if regularly is the right word.

The One Thing Wrong With the Hunger Games and How It Could Have Been Fixed

Well, not one thing. There are several changes from the book that admittedly detract from how good it is, but the movie stands pretty good on it's own. There's only one thing I found actually bad in the plot.

Sometime in the third act, District 11 riots. Obviously District 11 riots in the books, but only after Katniss makes her gesture of defiance with the berries. In the movie it's after Rue dies, and sort of comes out of left field, because this sort of thing's been going on for a long time. Why riot now?

Earlier in the movie Seneca and President Snow have a conversation in which Snow says that they allow one Tribute to win as a sign of hope, which I thought didn't make sense. In the books it's all about pitting the Districts against each other, and that would have made more sense had they said it in the movie. Then, when Katniss mourns Rue's death, it would show the Districts that it's not each other that is the enemy, it is the Capitol. All it needed was one conversation rewritten, and it would have made sense. Instead, we get what seems like a minor plot hole.

Nerd rant over.
